CentOS in an HPC environment

2007-11-15
Looks like Sun is relying on CentOS for their new HPC clusters. Their product is called Constellation and is made up of Sun Blade systems which support Sparc, Opteron and Intel Xeon.

One of the first clusters built by Sun is called Ranger and

will have 3,936 nodes, 123 terabytes of memory and 62,976 processor cores from AMD Opteron quad-core processors.

And the best: It will run on CentOS, as this article states. Yay! Over 500 TeraFlops! If that is computed via the Linpack Benchmark, CentOS might drive the fastest Cluster in the Top 500 Supercomputer list.
